Tree Tagging Application

Orbiter developed a tree tagging program for the Department of Agriculture which is used to tag 50,000 apple trees, and may be of interest to others that care for trees. (For example: Nursery, Parks, Campus, Universities, Orchards).

The program allows placing an inexpensive 10 year+ life RFID tag on a tree (using a tree nail). The GPS location, and other information about the tree are recorded. A picture of the tree is taken and date stamped. Camera pictures of areas of interest on the tree such as stress and visual unknowns may be taken. A reminder to come back at a specified later date to see if actions taken have had a positive effect. The RFID tag confirms the “exact” tree when trees are close together and the GPS cordinate is not accurate enough to identify the tree. With 10,000 trees it is difficult to gain precision without our handheld as memory and recording of information about each tree may be more difficult. Seeing the progress of a tree, branch or infected area is important. The handheld is able to pull from memory past pictures so that a visual comparison may be made. From the comparative pictures proper action may be taken to help cure a tree or replace.
